Art and Team Meeting
This week I worked on researching for future aspects of the game. Due to the first build initially being due this week, final art assets did not need to be included as it didn't affect the game's playthrough. Instead, I spent majority of my time researching youtube tutorials and thinking about designs to discuss at our next meeting. I began looking at customizing the mouse design for our game including everything that has to do with coding it so I can understand how to design it for best implementation. In the slideshow presentation, I included some designs and I really enjoyed the flower with the triangle or the low poly traditional mouse design. I think both will look very good and be distinct from the background. I also made a mock-up of the text choices. I liked the Century Gothic text but I think it will be hard to read for some people. I recommend we choose to use Open Sans to match our website's font. I also began thinking about the loading screen animation. I think it would look very pretty to include an animation of flower petals falling down upon the scene. I am not sure whether or not to make it day, night, or design it so the time changes. I still have to discuss with the team whether we want it 2D, stylized, or 3D rendered. In order to create it, I would want to make sure we finish the layout of the environment, however, as new assets are made, it might take time which would leave me with little time to do a 2D or stylized animation. I began to layout the environment to create a pleasing appearance for the viewer since the camera does not move. This would help out in the future with implementing the objects in unity but it isn't completely necessary since things will probably change over time anyways. I started drawing this out but didn't like how it turned out so I deleted it. I will discuss more with my team so we can decide together about specific environmental design aspects.
Good:
I made some progress on deciding certain aspects of the game and just need to run them by the team first. Then I can begin to design them and we can implement them - probably before the next build is due.
Bad:
This week was midterm week for other classes and due to not 100% knowing what was exactly due this week, I neglected my work a bit. If it was any other week, I would have personally made all the assets from scratch instead of finding images online. I would have also made concept sketches for the animation screen and the environment. I think the team was swamped with work as well this week so I don't think our slow progress was necessarily bad but we could have done better communicating.
