Journey's End PPJs 08 (FINALS Week)

Public·7 members

We made it to the finals week. I think the main takeaways are this:

I think we handled these areas well:

  • Pivoting

    • We managed to move quickly between ideas. Pivoting is not always the best thing in such a short project, but is a valuable skill. When we ran into problems with the game and got feedback we responded quickly. Sometimes this made us lose focus, but all in all we were a very adaptable team.

  • Meetings

    • We were productive when working together to plan in the meetings. I always left them very hopeful for the week. Our organization dipped a bit in the final week, but for the beginning and middle of the project it was really top notch.

Three things that went right:

1. Team work - We worked together as a team and, at least for me, I did not have a lot of conflicts or disagreements with people. There was good communication between me and the team manager. I felt like he steered the boat in the right direction. Everyone did an equal amount of work it seemed and it was fun to work in this group.

2. The Concept of the Game - The idea behind the game was very solid. Minor adjustments had to be made to the idea, but most of us agreed on the goal and the vision. This helped us get on the same page on the programming side for figuring out how to display choices, select them, run actions, etc. It allowed for technical development to be more fluid.

Things that went right:

  • A game was created. It isn't perfect, but it is playable and something I think we can all be proud of. Throughout the things that were happening in the world around us, and all of us working from different places, we were still able to metaphorically come together to make this game.

  • The Team. Overall, our team worked very well together. We had no arguments and were able to help each other where needed. Communication wasn't always the best but in the end, we were able to get together when needed to get things done.

  • The Art. I am not really an artist. So when it came time to work on this game, I didn't help out with the assets. The assets that were created look great. The loading screen, the mouse, and the concept art really matched the theme of…

Three things that went RIGHT:

  • Our Teamwork

I was fortunate enough to work with a team that I got along with very well. I have only worked with one member previously for a class assignment and was pleased to find no issue with the majority of my team. We defined each others' roles at the beginning which I found to have been helpful especially with a small team like ours. We understood each others strengths and weaknesses and was able to know who to go to for help and who to ask for assets. I know I will not always be able to work with a team I get along with so well but I think its important for me personally to understand what makes a good teammate. I know I have to communicate well, do my portion of the work on time (or…
